Celebrated every summer since 1876, the Munich Opera Festival offers an excellent programme of opera and ballet performances throughout June and July
Since it was first staged, it has been a unique opportunity for locals and visitors from all over the world to experience a wide range of operatic work from the latest productions to exclusive premiers. The festival is held at the National Theatre, the home of the Bavaria State Opera in Munich's city centre. In 2010, the Bavaria State Opera will play at a new temporary performance venue on Marstallplatz, a vast courtyard at the back of the main venue.
The architects have designed a mobile and flexible playing area for performances. As in previous years, there will be two 'Opera for All' performances during the festival. On 26th June and 10th July the Bavaria State Opera invites everyone to an open-air opera and concert evening in laid-back atmosphere on the 'Max-Joseph-Platz' in front of the Bavaria State Opera with free admission to both events. On 26th June a classical concert with works from Claude Debussy and Richard Strauss will be performed. On 10th July the new production of Puccini's opera Tosca will be transmitted live to the 'Max-Joseph-Platz'.
