Specialist tour operator, DERTOUR, is planning a number of fam trips for agents this year, as part of its ongoing commitment to supporting its travel agent partners.
The four fam trips will include: Ruhr 2010, which is the European Capital of Culture in July; the theme park Europa-Park in September; the region of Lower Saxony including the Harz Mountains, also in September, and Wiesbaden and Frankfurt Christmas markets in October.
The visit to the Ruhr region will include a visit to the quirky 'Still Life Ruhrschnellweg' event, which is taking place on 18 July. On that day, the busiest motorway in the region, the A40, will be transformed into the largest picnic area in the world, with one direction of the motorway reserved for bikes and in-line skaters, and the other reserved for picnickers. It is a spectacle designed to showcase this interesting region and DERTOUR has booked two tables at the picnic for agents participating in the fam trip.
Isabel Marthy, Product Manager at DERTOUR comments, "This event is part of the celebrations of the Ruhr region of Germany being the UNESCO European Capital of Culture for 2010. Ruhr is the largest urban development in Germany, bursting with museums, musicals, leisure parks and festivals and is a region to watch out for in the future, as it is not so well known amongst British tourists, and we think it will be great to showcase it to travel agent partners interested in finding out more about this emerging tourist destination.
Our programme of travel agent fam trips are designed to demonstrate that Germany is not just about city breaks! It has so much to offer all types of holiday-makers, whether they are looking for something cultural, a family theme-park holiday, a lakes and mountains holiday, as well as the traditional Christmas markets which are enduringly popular. Once agents visit Germany for themselves, it really captures their imagination and helps them understand why, once clients visit, they want to visit again and again."
