Munich & Oberammergau Tour
Enjoy Bavaria's capital, rich in culture and tradition and experience the world-famous Passion Play in Oberammergau!
The history of the Oberammergau Passion Play begins in 1633. After endless death and hardship at the hands of the Thirty Years' War and the bubonic plague, the surviving population of Oberammergau vowed that they would perform the "play of the suffering, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ" every ten years if they were spared from extinction.
At Whitsun in 1634 they kept their promise for the first time. As early as the middle of the 18th century spectators came to Oberammergau from all over Germany, attracted by the great power and mystique of the play. The villagers have kept their vow ever since. For 376 years, their faith and commitment has been recognized and admired around the world. In 2010 the community is putting on over 100 performances between May and October, continuing the tradition of this world famous event.
