Zell am See
Zell am See is one of the most scenic and most popular resorts in Austria. Beautifully located on the shores of Lake Zell, the village lies next to the Hohe Tauern National Park and the Grossglock...
Often referred to as 'White Gold', salt has played a major role in the history of the Salzburger Land and gave the city of Salzburg and its state their names. Because of its vast salt deposits, the region made quite a name for itself and became very wealthy. The River Salzach, which rises in the lofty heights of the Hohe Tauern Mountain range before flowing towards Salzburg gives the area a measure of geographical cohesion and is the main transport route along the Salzach Valley that links the provincial capital of Salzburg with much of its hinterland.
The region offers an impressive combination of mountains, lakes
and rivers, delightful villages and prosperous cities. The
Salzburger Land is a good mixture of both the urban and the alpine,
with its splendid Baroque capital proving the main focus for many
visitors. Music is an important draw in a city that was the
birthplace of Mozart. South of Salzburg, the narrow Salzach Valley
and the Hohe Tauern mountain range provide a dramatic setting for
towns like Zell am See, Kaprun and Saalbach
Hinterglemm.
