A trip to Würzburg is not complete without a chance to explore the shopping districts, known to be the best in the Franconia region. Most shopping is focussed around the two pedestrian precincts of Schönbornstrasse and Domstrasse where there are large department stores offering a variety of goods. They include designer brands, furniture and toys however these products are all sold at relative high prices, as the area is renowned or its upscale clientele.

For a cheaper alternative, Juliuspromenade Street has many shops, although many of which are designer, they are more reasonably priced. As well as this, there are many more alternative shops offering unique items.

Many wine shops can be found in Würzburg, and offer the perfect souvenir to take home to loved ones. The Haus des Frankenweins is one of the best shops to buy Franconian wine and also hosts tasting mainly for tourists.

With over 150 restaurants and known for its locally produced wine, Würzburg can really offer any visitor good food and fine wine.

Traditional restaurants don't come much better than Backoefele, which serves delicious German and Franconian dishes. The old fashioned interior and rustic courtyard as well as the excellent food make this place a must-try.

Alte Mainmuhle has probably the best setting in the city, located next to the old bridge with some superb views and in a restored old mill, this restaurant is truly a lovely find. Again serving more traditional food it also has a out-door terrace with a view of the river which is particularly enjoyable in summer.

Capri Blaue Grotte is a unique restaurant. First serving pizza during the Second World War it has become the restaurants speciality every since and boats to having the best pizza and Italian food in the city.

Nestled in the hills of Würzburg, Nikolaushof offers excellent gourmet food at a reasonable price and with its intimate atmosphere is the perfect location for a romantic meal.

With so many sights to visit in Würzburg, tourists need to manage their time well so that the city is fully appreciated. The major sites are in the Old Town. Market square is home to the daily hustle and bustle of the market where every type of product can be purchased, and set on the backdrop of some stunning buildings and architecture. The late Gothic church of St Mary is a beautiful example of such buildings. Another is the four towered cathedral St. Kilian, one of the biggest Romanesque churches in Germany.

The old bridge is also a sight not to be missed, lined with statues of saints it is the oldest bridge still standing over the Main River. Marienberg Fortress is a short walk away and constructed in the 13th century.  It was originally a Celtic building but was reconstructed in a baroque style; inside the fortress is the Mainfrankisches Museum which exhibits jewellery and models of the city.

There are many other extremely interesting museums in the city. The Residenz is one of the most beautiful palaces in all of Europe with its spiral staircases and marble decorations. Tours can be taken of the palace to see the decadent rooms with baroque detail running throughout.

Würzburg is also home to festivals, namely the wine festivals, as the city is known for its famous wine, but also various others. For example the Würzburg Mozart Festival, the Bach Festival, Europe's largest African cultural Festival and the Würzburg Jazz Festival making Würzburg a vibrant city.
