Seville is the capital of Andalucía, the cultural and financial centre of southern Spain. It is located on the plain of the Guadalquivir river which crosses the city from North to South. According to legend, Seville was founded by Hercules, so its origins are linked with the Tartessian civilisation and it is one of the largest historical centres in Europe. Museums, art centres, theme parks, cinemas, theatres and clubs are some of the many leisure options that the city offers. Seville has the most passionate and portentous festivals with Semana Santa (Holy Week) and an annual feria (fair), the best tapas bars and the best nightlife in Andalucía, whilst bullfighting and fiesta are a way of life.
Seville has everything for the shopper from craftwork and souvenirs to sophisticated fashion sold in a variety of shops, workshops, shopping centres and street markets. The main shopping districts are: the old quarter, Triana and Nervión.
The city offers excellent restaurants serving all the specialities of Andalusian, Spanish and international gastronomy but is well known for its tapas. There are many great tapas restaurants around the town.
