Riga, situated on the bank of the River Daugava, is acknowledged as the cultural capital of East Europe. The medieval old town of Riga is a UNESCO Heritage Site but the city is particularly notable for its extensive Art Nouveau architecture, comparable with Vienna, Prague and Barcelona. It is a vibrant, fast-evolving city, which easily combines tradition with modernity. If you want to relax or just have fun, Riga has so much to offer: from great art galleries, relaxing parks to music festivals, concerts, folk music and hot night spots.

There is a wide range of choice when it comes to shopping in Riga, from large malls to local markets.
The Central Market is the main market in town, which is open Tuesday to Saturday 7am-6pm, Sunday and Monday 7am-5pm.
This shopping centre is located in the main shopping street in the Old Town. It offers a wide number of designer shops.

Riga has a wide range of good restaurants and most nationalities are catered for, notably Italian, Asian, Russian, Ukrainian and of course, Latvian. There are plenty of eateries, coffee shops and snack bars across the city but the top quality restaurants are found in hotels with the food served to a very high standard.
The restaurant Vincents is named after the famous Van Gogh and is one of the best restaurants in town. The menu suits the season and chef Martins Ritins uses organically grown local products for his delicious meals. This restaurant is highly recommended.
This is an affordable little restaurant in the North West of the Old Town with a tastefully subdued interior. The menu offers a range of tasty European dishes and is not overcrowded from tourists.
Do you fancy seafood straight from the water? if yes you have to try Riga's best seafood restaurant Zivju. Not the cheapest venue but well worth it.
This museum is located 8km (5 miles) east of Riga's Old Town and is highly recommended. It's not just a car showroom!
Riga's central market is a great place for photography and a chance to get away from the busy glossy shopping malls. But be careful, you need to watch your bags and cameras.
Melngalvju Nams was stunningly renovated and is now one of the most picturesque gothic building in Riga. It dates back to the 14th century and the interior is impressive with a fantastic rebuilt hall.
The iconic Freedom Monument is nearly 140 feet high. It is popular local and tourist spot.
It is 800 years old, and a remarkably well-preserved gothic church. It is one of the tallest buildings in the city, so take an elevator to the top of the spire and admire the panoramic views.
The Old Town is an 800 year old city centre with some spectacular sights such as the Town Hall Square, the House of Blackheads and a statue of St. Roland, the patron saint of Riga.
