When you buy an ATOL protected air inclusive holiday* from us, you will receive a confirmation invoice from us (or via our authorised agent through which you booked) confirming your arrangements and your protection under our ATOL.

* The air inclusive holidays we arrange are ATOL protected providing either the person who pays for the booking is present in the UK when the booking is made or the first leg of any flight or flights we arrange for you commences in the UK. For further information, visit the ATOL website at www.atol.org.uk

ABTA was created in 1950 by 22 leading travel companies. It now represents over 5,000 travel agencies and more than 900 tour operators, right across the British Isles. ABTA helps to maintain the highest standards of trading practice for the travel industry and its customers. The ABTA logo is a sign that you can expect choice, value and high levels of service from DERTOUR.

DERTOUR is also fully committed to always try to provide an alternative holiday or route in times of disruption that is out of our control, such as in the event of volcanic ash, disruption to air travel due to heavy snowfall or an airline strike grounding aircraft.

If you have any questions about our ABTA membership or the financial protection provided under our ATOL, please don't hesitate to call us on 020 7290 1104.

Destinations » Estonia » Tallinn Travel Guide

Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, is truly one of the gems of Northern Europe and dates as far back as the beginning of 12th century. Home to the most intact, and UNESCO protected, medieval city centre in the world. At the historical heart of the city is the hill of Toompea, covered in cobbled streets and filled with medieval houses and alleyways. A walk through this truly magical kingdom brings a mysterious sense of the atmosphere of the old days.

In Tallinn you find a micture between Russian orthodox churches and Dominican monasteries with old merchant houses and medieval meeting halls. It has an atmospheric Old Town and is full of history. Art and culture is taken as seriously by locals as the great nightlife. This year Tallinn the became the European Capital of Culture for 2011.

Tallinn is a convenient place for shopping. Most of shops are located around the Old Town and surrounding streets. There are plenty of elegant boutiques with quality fashion, shoes, perfume and more. Müürivahe Street is an interesting place to find knitted products, glasswork, ceramics, leather goods and artist's workshops.

Tallinn offers a number of large malls, such as Kristiine Keskus, Endia 45, or Ulemiste Centre, next to the city's airport. Also very popular with the locals is Tallinn's biggest shopping centre  Viru Keskus, Viru väljak 4, and is located in the city centre. Other than that you can find more interesting shops in the Old Town for clothing and amber, as it has to be imported from Lithuania.

Tallinn has a wide array of restaurants to choose from. You'll be able to find something to suit every taste and appetite, whether it's a Greek, Chinese or traditional Estonian cuisine. Tallinn's best restaurants are generally concentrated in the centre of the Old Town.

Eesti Maja Restaurant - Lauteri 1

Maybe you haven't had a reason to try Estonian cuisine before but when you are here you have to visit Eesti Maja Restaurant! Favourites include marinated eel, blood sausage or jellied pork.

Mookkala - Kuninga 4

Are you looking for a really good seafood restaurant in Tallinn? You found it! Mookkala's food is very good, the atmosphere is pleasant and the service is great.

Tallinn's Old Town

Many of the buildings have been renovated in the compact and beautiful Old Town. Tallinn's old quarter is one of the most attractive in Europe and has the image of a 'mini Prague'. Museums, historic buildings, shops, cafés and restaurants can all be found here.

Tallinna Linnamuuseum - Tallinn City Museum

The Tallinn City Museum, housed in a 14th-century building, exhibits the German and Soviet times, and beyond to independence, with some fascinating photos.

Raekoda Town Hall

The building was constructed in the 14th and 15th centuries and it is the only surviving late Gothic town hall in Northern Europe.

The Estonian Open Air Museum

See Tallinn from above! Enjoy the view from a platform on the Toompea hill - it is a truly unforgettable experience.
