Hamburg is affectionately known as the "Venice of the North" and it's not very hard to see why. There is a wide variety of Hamburg Christmas markets to choose from and the maritime setting sets them apart from any other Christmas market destination.

Every Saturday during the advent period there is a floating parade along the canals of Hamburg, the parade features many colourful floats and extravagant costumes and is a must see on your Christmas break. The parade floats past the fairytale ship' anchored along the Jungfernstieg promenade, used exclusively for Christmas and children who can bake cookies, participate in plays or have their faces painted making them a must see family attraction.

There is no better way to experience the unique charm of this beautiful maritime city than with a trip on one of our Hamburg city breaks.

Hamburg Christmas Market

During the festive season, the Hamburg Christmas market adds a sparkling cheer to the city's maritime atmosphere. The romantic Christmas market in Niendorf is well worth a visit with lavishly decorated tents and huts selling an array of festive treats. Take in the maritime flavour of the Christmas market on Fleet Island for a Christmas market with a difference, the live music and street displays make the market perfect for that busy winter break. The largest of these markets, just outside the town hall, is hosted by Roncalli's Circus where even the punch is served by clowns and regular shows keep the crowds entertained.  The Gänsemarkt Hanseatic market is one for the traditionalists with a choir singing carols every day.
