Düsseldorf Christmas Market 2012

The Düsseldorf Christmas markets 2012 are some of the most atmospheric in Germany. The six markets are located on picturesque squares and along romantically lit streets. The markets' 250 glittering stalls invite visitors to a romantic fairyland, each telling a small winter tale of their own. On Marktplatz, metal artists, glass blowers and wood carvers present their craft to passers-by. The stalls along Flinger Strasse are decorated in the style of the street's ancient town houses.

Düsseldorf Christmas Market

The Düsseldorf Christmas Market is an event full of excitement for all the family. The attractions include an outdoor ice rink and fun fair, providing visitors with the opportunity to burn off all of the cakes and mulled wine that have been consumed through the day.

The art-nouveau inspired 'Angel's market' at Heinrich-Heine-Platz boasts its own unique charm and a festive programme is staged at Gustaf-Gründgens-Platz which are both popular attractions with visitors. The decorated fir and spruce branches and the impressive winter landscape at the Christmas market are both wonderful festive highlights. There are many Düsseldorf city breaks available making it easy to travel in and around the city.

More designer shops, department stores and smaller stores can be found on Schadowstrasse at the end of Königsallee boulevard.

Antiques & Furniture

Düsseldorf's historic centre offers a fine selection of antiques stores. Lothar Heubel, Bastionstrasse 27, specializes in Asian and African antiques. One of Düsseldorf's largest suppliers of Art Deco furniture and art objects is Arts Decoratifs, Hohestrasse 20.

Victorian Restaurant, Königsstr. 3A

This is the finest restaurant in the city centre. The decor features sparkling crystal, black-leather banquettes, and masses of flowers. The food represents the best of both traditional and modern schools.

Zum Schiffchen, Hafenstrasse 5

If you're looking for Düsseldorf's most traditional and atmospheric restaurant, this is the best place to go. In the heart of the Old Town, the city's oldest restaurant serves hefty portions of regional cuisine. Over the years, the restaurant has attracted many famous diners ranging from Napoleon and Heinrich Heine to Arthur Miller.

Old Town

Düsseldorf's Old Town has been called 'the longest bar in the world' with its over 200 bars and restaurants. Close to the gothic Town Hall are two of the city's most famous landmarks; St. Lambertus Church and Castle Tower, both dating back to the 13th century.

Königsallee

Düsseldorf's most famous street spreads along a decorative canal, shaded by trees and crossed by bridges. One bank of the canal is lined with office buildings, the other with elegant shops, cafes and restaurants. At the northern end of the canal you will reach beautiful Hofgarten Gardens. From the park area, all of Düsseldorf's major attractions are within easy reach.

MediaHarbour

Düsseldorf's trendiest district. In the 19th century this area was the city's flourishing warehouse sector. Today, MediaHarbour is often a showcase for modern avant-garde architecture with buildings designed by Frank O. Gehry, architect of Bilbao's celebrated Guggenheim museum.
